Fall Festival

Clear your calendars for October 31st. It's Fall Festival time and the church is inviting the youth ministry to help.

Dates and times will be updated as we get more information but for now get ready, because October is almost here.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game!

Monday July, 27th at 6:30 p.m.

We've got free tickets to the game against San Angelo Colts. We will meet at the park at 6:30 to get tickets. Also, bring enough money for refreshements and food. We won't be eating dinner there so try and eat before you come.

Family Game Night

Wednesday August 19

We know that school is almost here because Wal-Mart is stocking the shelves with back to school sales. So in honor of your immenent return we wanted to give students and their familes a night of fun and games.

Come to Westover Fellowship Church at 6:30 p.m. for a family meal, and stay until 8:30 p.m. playing games, winning prizes, and just relaxing while hanging with the whole family.

Does God have a cell phone?

So an average American uses their phone approximately 90 times a day... or something like that. Well, what some "experts" may say is an annoying habit, I think can be a way to help us get closer to God and a way to share Christ with others.

Most phones now have an alarm built in so try this. Using your alarm function, set up three or four times during the day when your alarm will go off and remind you to focus your time on God. Not only will this keep your mind free from having to remember your quiet time, or a time to pray, but this will also be an audible reminder to check up on God and do something good for yourself.

Below is my system that works well for me, try it and if you don't like it, well... try something else.

The 4 R's

On my phone I've set up a "4-R" system. My phone has room to save four seperate alarm times, and using them I have found a way to make technology work for me and God.

RELAX:

At 10:01 a.m. my first alarm sounds and I am reminded to relax. After I start my day at work I can become super busy, the first R reminds me to stop take a breath and focus on what's important in life, not my schedule or to-do but God's sovereignity and love. Others may use this time to take time to pray, or meditate, or just get up and take a walk.

RE-INSPIRE:

At 1:02 p.m. again my alarm sounds and I'm reminded it's time to re-inspire. After being surrounded by computers, emails, videos, lists, schedules, and what needs to be done next, I stop for a while and allow my brain to recharge. This means to plug your brain into the source that gets you excited about God. Finding your way to re-inspire is a different outlet for everyone, some may throw paint at a canvas, others may like to read a good book, or catch up with the Bible, still others may like to do push-ups or jumping jacks, whatever the case, finding some way to connect with the living God is what's important.

RECREATE:

3:03 p.m. nows my chance to recreate. Have fun, play, go outside, roll in the grass, Merriam and Webster says it like this, "to give new life or freshness to: refresh." Find a way to take a walk outside, breathe the air, bask in the sun, touch nature, and be reminded that God wants us to enjoy His creation.

READ:

Finally at 10:04 p.m. I'm reminded to read. It's late, and I know that a lot has happened in one day, as I am in bed, I make sure to have at least a few good books on my nightstand that are within my reach. These books are my favorites, or what I'm currently reading, one is the Bible, but others aren't even Christian, find something that you like to read and just read. My routine of reading before I sleep allows me wind down, and gets my body ready to sleep.

Again, this might not work for you, but try to find something that does, We spend many hours on our phones, God deserves some of that time, and He wants to spend it with you.

Extreme Makeover Youth Edition

Grab your hard hats guys and gals, the Youth Ministry Room is getting overhauled! This July, Saturday the 18^th we will be asking all youth and anyone who wants to help to come out to Westover Fellowship Church for a morning of elbow-grease, sturdy fellowship, and tons of fun.

When: From 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

Where: Westover Fellowship Church

Who: All youth and parents and friends

We will have projects of all sizes and difficulties.

Projects include:

o Hanging sheet metal for the Magnet Wall

o Constructing rolling cabinets for storage

o “Evolving” a Paper Mache tree lamp

o Hanging curtains

o Building a CarpetBall table

o Building a magazine rack

o Painting

o And cleaning

We want all youth to come and put their sweat into creating their room. So come by and lend us a hand and don’t forget to wear closed toe shoes, and clothes that can afford to be ruined.

PARENTS NOTICE: (Ask your mom or dad to take a look.)

We need tools… but only a few. A drill, hammers, disposable paint brushes, ratchet set. If you can bring by some tools for this project we could use them. And if you want to stay and help we can use you too.

Youth Roundup 2009

Youth Turning the World Upside Down

Grades 7-12

Youth from around the conference will have the opportunity to participate in a day of worship, training, community, spiritual growth, and service. Registration, worship and worskshops will be held in the Youth Dept. area located on the 2nd floor of the Christian Life Center at the FUMC church in Lubbock.

Youth will begin the morning with worship followed by a choice of two worskshops. The afternoon will be spent working on various community projects throughout the city.

Alright Westover Fellowship guys and gals, here's the deal. Pastor Guest will be attending this conference and wants to take as many youth who want to go. This is a great opportunity to learn and grow as a Christian and score some new information and hear a few reall good speakers.

The important stuff:

• This is a one day youth event, August 15.
• Registration MUST BE COMPLETED by July 22nd
• 15 dollars per person (unless 5 or more sign up then the cost will be 10 dollars).
• Transportation provided
• Bring your Bible, a journal, money for food, and a small backpack to carry your things.
• Leave your Ipod or other media devices at home (yeah bummer).

Summer Sanctuary 2009

What: Anything Who: Anyone

Why: Because summer vacation is tough

This summer we want to provide students with an opportunity to hang out with a member with of the youth staff doing whatever you want. Haven’t seen a good movie in a while? As long as it’s properly rated we can go. Want to down a tray of chili dogs from the local Wienerschnitzel? We can eat them up together! Haven’t had anyone who will just sit and listen? We can do that too.

Garage Sale

Alright everyone mark your calendars for a garage sale! Westover Fellowship United Methodist Church is having a garage sale to benefit it's many ministries.

When: July 25th (8 a.m. - 3 p.m.)

Where: Westover Fellowship UMC

Why: The Children's ministry needs a new playground and we will be supporting them by loading heavy items for buyers, and in addition we will be selling baked goods as well as refresments to support our Youth program.

This is not a mandatory youth event but I hope that we have volunteers who will give their time to help us out.

This summer we are partnering with World Vision to bring hope to families who are living in extreme poverty, fighting starvation, and without basic living needs. With your donations of unbroken, ans easily shipped items, we will sell whaterver we recieve on Ebay and use 100% of the profits to buy a goat for a family living in need.
